Barnstable County is the fiscal agent for the Compact and provides administrative oversight and supervision. The Cape Light Compact is a regional services organization made up of all 21 towns of Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard, and Barnstable and Dukes counties. The purpose of the Compact is to represent and protect consumer interests in a restructured utility industry. As authorized by each town, the Compact operates the regional energy efficiency program and works with the combined buying power of the region’s 197,000 electric
consumers to negotiate for lower cost electricity and other public benefits. The Compact began the energy education program for Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard in August 2002.
Cape Cod Cooperative Extension is Barnstable County’s Education Department. County Extension programs are conducted in Barnstable County in cooperation with the University of Massachusetts and the United States Department of Agriculture. Education programs focus on horticulture/agriculture, marine resources, natural resources, energy, nutrition and food safety, water quality, recycling education, hazardous waste management, and youth development through the 4-H program.
